Why should you come to this class?
In this class we work with a real cake, teaching you how to professionally level, fill and cover a double tier 6" round cake with beautiful sharp edges. We use a delicious chocolate ganache to fill and coat this cake, before covering with sugarpaste and creating those lovely crisp edges. You will also make a beautiful full open Rose, a Peony and a Poppy using flower paste, and pipe a pretty decoration around the edge of the cake.

- How to cover your cake using ganache for a perfect smooth surface ready for a sharp edge.
- How to cover a double height cake with sugarpaste.
- Creating a super sharp edge with the sugarpaste.
How to make a beautiful full rose.
How to make a large open peony with wired petals.
How to make a large poppy with wired petals.
How to make hydrangeas.
Assembling your flowers on a cake and adding filler flowers.
- Finishing your cake board with ribbon.
- Boxing your cake.
What will you take home from this class?
You will take home your finished cake, that has been baked, covered and decorated by you!
All the cake boards and boxes are supplied free of additional charge
Each student will also be given our very detailed, 70 page PDF tutorial (emailed to you after the class) that we wrote to accompany this class, giving full instructions on everything you make during this class.
What will you need to bring to this class?
You will need to bring 3 layers of cake with you that are 6" round cakes.
We ask you to bake the cakes as Lou spends a portion of the first morning talking to each of you about your cake, and how you can improve your baking, and also how to fix any mistakes. If we provided you with perfect cakes then we feel we would have a missed teaching opportunity!
We will supply the buttercream, sugarpaste, flowerpaste and modelling pastes, plus all the equipment and boards and boxes to take your cake home in!
Please also bring an apron and a packed lunch with you. The Cake Makery will provide tea, coffee and cold refreshments as needed!
This class is for beginners, and anyone who wants to improve their sharp edge cake techniques and learn how to create stunning large flowers for cake decoration.
This is a 4 1/2 hour class that is run from 10.00am - 2.30pm over three days and has a maximum of 4 students, allowing us to give you more personalised teaching and attention. We have set the times this way over three days so that mums don't need childcare while their little ones are at school!
