Why should you come to this class?
Painting on cakes is becoming a very popular trend, and provides an interesting and unique way to add design and colour to any cake. When planning for this class, we thought about levels of artistic ability and wondered how we could teach such a skill to a beginner who has little experience with cake or painting! We have spent two years discussing ideas, techniques and talking about ways in which this subject can be taught to a beginner.
Lou will take you through a few different ways to apply a design to a cake, then she will show you many varied techniques for applying those designs, using food pens (which are now available a wide range of colours), sugarflair paste colours for painting, and royal icing to create different painted effects.
During the class you will create the three different sides to our cake, and re-create all the techniques you see, so that when you leave (with our detailed guide!), you will have the confidence to transfer all kinds of designs to your cakes, using a variety of new techniques.
What will you take home from this class?
You will take home your finished beautifully painted dummy cake. All the dummies, cake boards and boxes are supplied free of additional charge.
Each student will also be given our detailed 64 page PDF guide (emailed to you after the class) that we wrote to accompany this class, giving full instructions covering everything you learn with us during this class.
Some of the photos we are using on this page are student cakes!
What will you need to bring to this class?
You do not need to bring anything to this class as we will provide you with a covered dummy cake to work on that has been drying for a few days before the class, this gives you the best surface to work on when painting.
We will supply the equipment and boards and boxes to take your cake home in!
Please bring an apron and a packed lunch with you. The Cake Makery will provide tea, coffee and cold refreshments as needed!
This class is for beginners and anyone looking to perfect their skills a bit further, giving you the confidence to creatively add colour and style to your cakes at home.
This is a two day class, each day is 6 hours and a we allow a maximum of 6 students to attend this class, this allows us to give you more personalised teaching and attention.
The class starts at 10am and ends at 4pm. It is beneficial (though not essential) if students can allow for a small amount of homework on day 1 to give you additional time to develop your ideas and designs ready for drafting and painting onto your cake on day two.
